Annual Gift Exclusion

The amount an individual may give to any single recipient in a calendar year without triggering a gift-tax filing requirement or reducing the lifetime gift and estate tax exemption.

The annual gift exclusion is one of the simplest tools in transfer planning: gifts at or below the threshold per recipient per year are completely outside the gift tax system — no return filed, no lifetime exemption used.
