Concierge / Lifestyle Services

Concierge or lifestyle services are non-financial support functions a family office provides to manage the personal lives, travel, households, and events of family members.

Some family offices extend well beyond investment management and tax coordination to handle the practical details of daily life at scale. These lifestyle services — sometimes called concierge services — can include booking private travel, coordinating household staff across multiple residences, managing event planning, overseeing personal security, and handling the dozens of small logistics that accumulate when a family owns complex assets and lives in multiple locations. As explored in what a family office is, the office is organizational infrastructure, and for some families that infrastructure reaches into personal life as naturally as it reaches into a portfolio.

The scope varies widely. A single-family office serving a family with several homes and frequent international travel might employ a dedicated lifestyle manager full-time. A leaner setup might outsource the same function to a specialized concierge firm and simply coordinate through the office. Neither approach is inherently better; families typically choose based on volume, complexity, and how much privacy they want to preserve by keeping logistics in-house.

A common confusion is treating concierge services as a luxury add-on rather than a genuine operational need. Consider a three-generation family with properties on three continents: coordinating staff payroll, maintenance schedules, travel logistics, and household inventories across those properties is a real administrative burden. Concierge services exist to handle that burden systematically, with accountability, rather than leaving it scattered across family members' personal assistants. The lean family office structure article discusses how offices decide which functions to keep internal and which to outsource.
